Well, no, but I imagine it’s better to do so, so it doesn’t get in the incision there. I can’t imagine it’d be a good thing if it did. He should also wash his hands, make sure he & the environment [and surrounding flesh area, etc etc] are sterilized, and has and uses the proper tools for the job. He should also have training in such things. If you want and expect to survive, I mean.
